About Our Guest
Sabnum Dharamsi co-founded the first contemporary model of Islamic Counselling in 1997, and has delivering courses accredited to practitioner level. Her other initiatives on spirituality in therapy include work with many community organisations like the Muslim Youth Helpline, statutory services like Grenfell Key Workers, and mainstream counselling platforms like the Bath Analytic Network and OnlineEvents. She also has a private practice.
Islamic Counselling (the Dharamsi-Maynard model) is a psycho-emotional spiritual approach to change, based on a theory derived from the teachings of Islam, in which the human being is in the process of development of consciousness through their experience of and interaction with other, including people and the world. This process is continuous and part of terbiyyah. All interactions combine aspects of the divine and the base. The Islamic Counsellor enables the client through mirroring to see that which is highest in their experience and therefore in themselves.
