The Climate Justice strand comprises an intention to move:
Away from dependence on fossil fuels;
Towards non-polluting energy, needs above profit, and socially just solutions.
Principles of the Climate Justice Strand:
Communities to Self-Govern
Renewable Energy: No New Fossil Fuel Projects
Invest in Social and Ecological Wealth
Prioritise Needs of People and the Earth
Apply Socially Just Solutions
(recognising historical injustices)
The above principles are work in progress and are interwoven in the text below…
Islam and Climate Change ~ A Call to Heal
On the issue of Climate Change & Islam, we recommend starting with our colour photo-booklet, Islam and Climate Change ~ A Call to Heal.
It can be downloaded and printed for free.
In terms of socially just solutions which the booklet does not directly focus on, we recommend viewing the five strands as interconnected. In particular the Deep Democracy strand provides foundational principles for climate solutions to be socially just, as well as owned and inclusive of marginalised communities, who have historically been disproprtionately on the receiving end of environmental impacts, at a local and global level.
